Dear Peter (from now on PB),

I have an idea... I think the best way we could strike up a fruitful partnership is to start again on a new thread and investigate 156a to 157c together. We can go through the translation together in detail and see if we can come to agreement about what it all really means. Are you up for that?

I think so. But we shouldn't forget that this is inserted within the text which runs roughly from 150 - 160, and that there is a bunch of Socratic irony going on here. Not that we shouldn't do as Socrates does, take it at face value. Perhaps you'd like to start the ball running.

Dear sir, as you see, I am just the sort of man to keep a conversation tranquil and neat, when possible.

Now, I suppose if something must be added, of astonishing interest, it might come along with an answer. But you would give no answer. And only the corollary in comment.

I should accept it if you were to say, although I do not think it quite right, I shall answer for the sake of the game, so long as you allow the answer to carry at least the semblance of dignity.

Besides, you might also start a counter dialectic, with your saved reflections if you wished.

---

Q:We wish to know about Plato, not yourself. Do you suppose that he, however long a spell of thought he gave himself up to, could have guessed at the goings on of today's universities? And we shall be overjoyed if you do not evade us by confessing your ignorance of everything in our world, and so your incapability to answer, as if you were an imbecile.
