Following several discussions on this topic, the document available here represents the findings of a keen group of amateur economists. It includes some thought on the relationship between economic rent and property rights, on how John Locke has something useful to contribute, and about the opera singer.

I hope this will stimulate discussion.

This fresh and thoughtful presentation is another wake-up call.
Anything we make with our own effort is ours, says Locke, provided that "at least where there is enough [of what nature has provided] and as good, left in common for others".
In choosing to work more for the benefit of all rather than just for "me", we need to consider our use of what nature has provided. The present unsustainable use for "me" certainly does not leave as good in common for the others who will follow.
It could be argued that it is the constant effort to make good the loss of work appropriated by land owners which leads to the excessive demand for natural resources.[/i]
