(Exhibition of paintings by Edward Hopper)
In the light
dwells some magic diffusing of our dark,
In blues and yellows and greens
In city-reds, rough, and
with fire not seen
because unlooked for.
The still fire,
unseen or unregarded,
People are in pictures and
people look at pictures.
with place-and-space reflecting
reality and dream.
forever, ever. Amen.
(This poem was originally written about people and paintings, and of sharing a particular moment and space - but I think it might also have some applicability to the relationship between people and poems, and of sharing poetry as the spoken word)
