Albert

He looks down on me now through his portrait.
Smiling, reminding me, as if I need reminding,
Of our love which still lives in my heart.
Itís a long time since he looked as George has depicted him there.
The changes were so gradual we scarcely noticed them at first
The body slowly forgetting itís many abilities and talents.
He disliked that, but the mysterious, crooked, happy and secret smile
With which he woke from naps in his chair
Made me wonder what blissful land he had found.
And then when someone else had cared for him awhile
And I returned, his eyes and face lit up with joy.
Perhaps his last months and years werenít so bleak after all.
